Antique chest from North of Italy

Length: 169 cm
Depth: 55 cm
Height: 68 cm
Antique 17th-century chest from the Italian Apennines of Modena.
Stylistically speaking it is a very distinctive chest as it has decorative features that indicated the intended use of the piece of furniture.
On the front we can observe designs obtained through the use of metal punch strokes that pitted the surface of the wood.
The decorations placed on the front suggest to us that the construction of the chest was commissioned to contain a wedding trousseau.
The exterior of the chest is made of Italian walnut wood, while the bottom and back is made of “canaletto” walnut wood.
This chest is certainly unique especially in the way it has been maintained in perfect condition to this day.
